RUN, WALK, ROLL. Join Dr. Hazel’s VRT in 100 days of movement and listening over the next 255 days. Our goal is to move and listen for 100 days without any digital distraction. That means no podcasts, no phone calls, no music, no audiobooks. Actively listen to your surroundings, your body, and your thoughts, and embrace the uncomfortable. Listening is an essential act to foster allyship. We believe this can be an excellent campaign that will encourage participants to find beauty in the little things, improve listening skills, and foster self-awareness in allyship.
Steps to join us:
Print out the provided calendar to record your movements and reflections
Get ready to move and listen (run, walk, roll, bike, climb, ski, etc.) starting March 1st
Engage in the community and the worldwide movement. Share your one-word reflection after each movement! @du_cfsp @glocalacademy
Embrace the uncomfortable and join us in the act of listening
“Allies listen intently with their full attention, withhold judgment, check and address their implicit biases, and respond thoughtfully. Active listening is a difficult, but crucial skill that takes practice and training… Social good is not automatic – instead, we are individuals and institutions for whom every day contains opportunities to listen, learn, and improve” (Ng, W., Ware, S. M., & Greenberg, A., 2017)
“Allyship is not an identity—it is a lifelong process of building relationships based on trust, consistency, and accountability with marginalized individuals and/or groups of people. Allyship is not self-defined—our work and our efforts must be recognized by the people we seek to ally ourselves with” (The Anti-Oppression Network).
We would like to thank and acknowledge Dr. Krishna Naineni (UK) and Dr. Apeksha Kakkar (India) for collaborating with us during the development of this campaign. Their “100 Runs in 255 Days” program inspired us to create something similar, with the hope to teach others the value of listening and learning from others, and how listening and allyship go hand in hand. Please visit @glocalacademyuk or www.glocalacademy.org to learn more about their work.
We would love to share together with you in this journey! Please feel free to send pictures and selfies of your adventure and tag @du_cfsp or email the pic to Lindsay.Nelson@du.edu or Audrey.ford@du.edu!
